GPS Jacket & Backpack
“Found him!” cries out Mr. Morris, CEO of Brickhouse Security while demonstrating the covert GPS tracking device which was covertly placed inside a “GPS Jacket”. In a recent industry trade meeting, child safety, awareness and prevention was the hot topic of discussion. Satellite detectable clothing is quickly becoming more than just a buzz word amongst law enforcement and concerned parents who want to search for lost children. At the conference, Mr. Morris placed a mini GPS tracking device in an ordinary jacket, gave it to one of the reporters who was then asked to “go for a walk”. 30 minutes later, as the crowd gathered around the computer, everyone was instantly able to see where the jacket with the GPS device was, and everywhere it had went. We followed it from the headquarters on 36th and 6th to 3 blocks away and a deli, finally to a park not too far away. “Imagine this dot as your child wandering around a big scary city. Lost, frightened. Most children don’t know their address or last name,” Explained Private Investigator Tim Gallagher. “Often it can take days before a child is found and reunited with his family.”
When the reporter returned, everyone was amazed at the accuracy of the locating ability of the device, and how quickly the dot moved across the screen in real-time. Users can watch as the location updates every few seconds. The reporter also noted that the small, lightweight form inside the jacket made it very difficult to detect by small children wearing the jacket. Mr. Morris was keen to point out that this mini GPS can go in any jacket. “This technology is so durable and versatile that most small children can comfortably wear this, sewn inside their jacket, or other clothing virtually undetectable. For other children, placing the same device in a bulletproof backpack can ensure complete protection of your child, anywhere they may go.”
The device can be outfitted with either a 7 day or 21 day rechargeable battery. With built-in AGPS (Assisted GPS) using cell phone technology, the units will work indoors as well, where typical GPS receivers can’t reach. Anywhere you can get a cell phone signal; you can get a lock on your child. Parents can get alerts on their cell phones or via email if that child wearing a GPS outfitted jacket or bookbag with a mini GPS in it, that the child has gone somewhere they aren’t supposed to by setting up a geo-fence. Perhaps the child has gone to a friend’s house or rode their bike to far away from a comfortable safe-zone. A parent will be alerted immediately to something like this happening.
“This certainly isn’t for everyone” explained Jason Lazarus, Director of Marketing. “The costs can be a bit high for many people. Alternatives such as ion-kids and locator devices do the trick if you want peace of mind and a closer watch of your children, or special needs children.” A small handheld locator with tiny tags and another device that looked like a watch was passed around the room.
As missing children and troubling school shootings occur more often, it’s only natural to do the best we can for our children. Outfitting them with bulletproof backpacks and GPS devices may be the closest alternative to being there for you children, even when you can’t be there as often as you would like.
