What is a Child Locator?

Picture it. You take your child to the mall. You turn your back for a second and he's gone, lured by a stranger with a red ballon…

A Child Locator is a lightweight device that attaches to your child;s shoelaces and is designed to help parents or guardians keep track of their children and prevent this kind of tragedy. The device alleviates the stress and panic that ensue when children get lost, or are difficult to reach. It emits a series of loud beeps, allowing parents to find their children quickly and easily. This is also an ideal solution for disabled adults, the elderly and daycare centers.

How do Child Tracking Devices work?

Once activated, a Child Tracking Device transmits a signal to a Base Unit, via Radio Frequency (RF) technology; if your child goes outside of a user-defined range, an alarm will sound on the portable Base Unit carried by the parent. The Base Unit locates the child immediately, averting possible disaster

Can I use this Personal Tracking System with a disabled or elderly family member?

Personal Tracking Systems are also useful for locating Autistic Children and elderly family members, who are unaware of their surrounds and are liable to wander off at a moment's notice. If a disabled person falls and is unable to communicate, the Personal Tracking System pinpoints their location quickly and effectively, so they can receive the medical care they desperately need.

Has the Child Monitor ever located the wrong child?

The manufacturers of some Child Monitors have been lax, programming their devices to respond to any Radio Frequency (RF) signal, often locating the wrong child if multiple parents are within range.

BrickHouse Security has been careful to address this sensitive issue by offering unique, hassle-free, solutions, with parents and caregivers in mind: The Ion-Kids Child Monitor & Locator Base Unit can monitor up to 4 tamper-proof Bracelets simultaneously, allowing up to 4 children to be monitored from a single Base Unit. The Base Unit uses the latest technology, to ensure that it will only respond to the signal generated by the Bracelet.

Is there a monthly fee?

There is no monthly fee associated with any of BrickHouse Security’s Child Locators. All of our devices use Radio Frequency (RF) technology, so you aren’t responsible for costly Membership Fees or cell phone-related service charges associated with expensive GPS Systems.

What is the difference between GPS and Non-GPS Systems?

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a cumbersome, satellite-based navigation system, subscription service made up of a network of 24 satellites placed into orbit by the U.S. Department of Defense. Global Positioning Systems (GPS) provide specially coded satellite signals that can be processed in a GPS receiver, enabling the receiver to compute position, velocity and time. GPS satellites circle the earth twice a day in a very precise orbit and transmit signal information to earth. GPS receivers take this information and use triangulation to calculate the user's exact location.

Non-GPS-based tracking systems, on the other hand, are a more practical solution: They are compact and rely wholly on Radio Frequency (RF) technology, they require far less battery power than a GPS device, which makes them more compact and more durable, and there’s no monthly service plan required.

Why isn’t GPS a good solution today?

When we think about tracking people with GPS technology, images from Science Fiction come to mind: People omnipotent knowledge of other people’s location, based on implants placed under the skin. With all the concern about recent child abductions, parents can't be blamed for wishing they had an ironclad solution.

GPS is not practical way to track individuals—the devices were developed for use by the U. S. Military to track large groups of people and/or vehicles located within a wide range.

What is the maximum tracking distance?

Most Child Tracking Devices operate a receivable signal to Base Unit up to 500 Feet Outdoors and 300 Feet Indoors, giving you peace-of-mind. Bring your child to the beach or the park without worrying that he will run off while you're busy digging toys or a Sippy Cup out of your bag.
