What Is aGPS?
AGPS (or Assisted Global Positioning Systems) uses local cellular towers to triangulate a location. When you use a standard GPS unit, the device needs to locate a satellite in space and pinpoint an exact location. This process can take up to a couple of minutes to acquire the needed information. AGPS acquires a location using cellular towers that are constantly receiving satellite location data from space. When you use Assisted GPS, the GPS Tracker pulls information from the local cellular towers that are also receiving information from satellites in space. Unlike GPS units, it takes AGPS only a few seconds to pull data from the cellular satellites to determine GPS Location. Since this information is stored in the Cellular Towers, your device's location is acquired faster, less processing power is required, and you can get a GPS location whether you are indoors or outdoors. You can even pick up a signal inside a building.
